Book Review for Randall Silvis’ Two Days Gone

January 1, 2017 is the start of a brand new year, so the Nashville Freelancers are going to start a brand new category for our site here on  That new feature will be periodically reviewing a new book.  The books, and Writers, we review are not members of our organization, and, our reviews will not necessarily endorse their books.

Many of our members are well into writing mysteries, therefore, we have chosen Randall Silvis’ Two Days Gone as our first book to be reviewed.  This is a 400 page book, with an ISBN of 978149269732,  published by Sourcebook Landmark, that  will become available for release on January 10, 2017.

For those of you not familiar with Randall Silvis’ writing, he is a screenwriter, novelist, playwright, and teacher.  Randall Silvis won the Drue Heinz Literature Prize in 1984 for his first book, The Luckiest Man In The World.  He has also been awarded two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Two Days Gone, a Ryan DeMarco mystery, is a vividly written thriller depicting the charmed life of Professor Thomas Huston, a tenured university professor in Pennsylvania.  Huston appears to have it all including a gorgeous wife and three adorable children.  He even has a topselling book.  Then, tragedy strikes, and Huston’s life collapses around him in the blink of an eye.

With surgical precision, his family is stabbed to death in their suburban home and Huston is on the lam.  Battling demons of his own, Police Sergeant Ryan DeMarco can not accept that Huston could be capable of such a dastardly crime.

Nerves fray, and tensions mount, as the two main characters relentlessly pursue clues as to the real killer of Huston’s family.  Sure to become a literary suspense gem,  Two Days Gone also provides the story of a deeply rewarding friendship and illustrates the relationship between writers and readers.

Other books by Randall Silvis include Dead Man Falling, Disquiet Heart, Flying Fish, and The Boy Who Shoots Crows.
