Representative Diane Black Emerges As Leading Candidate To Chair Budget Committee

According to Politico, a political-journalism organization that covers policy and politics in the United States, Representative Diane Black has emerged as the leading candidate to Chair the Budget Committee.  This is one of the most influential committee positions in the United States Senate.  Chairing this Committee would also make Black the fourth Tennessee lawmaker to hold such a position.

Other Tennesseans who Chair Committees include Senator Bob Corker (Committee On Foreign Relations), Representative Phil Roe (House Committee On Veterans’ Affairs), and Senator Lamar Alexander (Committee On Health, Education, Labor, And Pensions).

A vocal critic of Barack Obama’s signature health care law, Black’s appointment to Chair the Budget Committee is expected before President-Elect Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day of January 20.

This appointment would provide Black significant power because that position controls the Presidential agenda and what topics are addressed.

Black’s appointment could also affect Tennessee’s 2018 Gubernatorial Race where she is currently a heavy favorite with her net worth of more than $150 million dollars. A staggering fortune that makes Black one of the wealthiest members of Congress.
