Bill Hagerty Tapped To Become Ambassador To Japan

According to several sources, Nashville private equity investor Bill Hagerty has been tapped by President-Elect Donald Trump to become the new Ambassador to Japan, a place where Hagerty has previously lived and worked.

Hagerty is the Managing Director of Hagerty Peterson & Company LLC, a merchant bank and private equity firm focusing on the information services, health care, media, and entertainment industries.

Previously, Hagerty served as the Director of Presidential Appointments for the 2016 Trump Presidential Transition Team.  He also serves on the Board of the Ryman Hospitality Properties that includes the Ryman Auditorium, the Gaylord Hotel Group, and the Grand Ole Opry.

Serving as the Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development from 2011 to 2014, under Governor Bill Haslem, Hagerty achieved several key business deals between the state and Japanese companies.  These include CalsonicKansei North America Inc., an automotive systems manufacturing corporation, Nissan North America, and Bridgestone Americas.

In this capacity, Hagerty was also responsible for the Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission, that landed the ABC hit television series “Nashville,” which has had a large impact on the growth of Nashville’s economy and tourism.

Hagerty has also been considered a Republican candidate for Governor of Tennessee in 2018.
